Our home, the Benson, is designed for modern urban living. It is well-built, attractive, light, airy, designed to maximize space, energy efficient, and low maintenance. Beyond these, our original criteria, we realized after living in the house for some months, the design and flow also create a wonderful calming feel. The Benson is a space that refreshes and rejuvenates. You can visit and experience it for yourself.

Designed by KOHN SHNIER architects, with Scandinavian aesthetics as inspiration, the Benson boasts a modern look, clean lines, open spaces, large windows, vaulted ceilings on the second floor, ample storage, and a lower level with a secret garden. The exterior is striking and modern, yet fits into the surrounding neighbourhood with a brick façade and pitched roof.
The Benson has received a lot of attention;
it was featured in Designlines magazine before it was completed.
Through thoughtful design, the home has a limited carbon footprint and emits fewer greenhouse gases. A post-build energy audit concluded that the home’s level of energy efficiency was in the top 10% of houses in its age group.
This was achieved by maximizing the use and feel of the available space to decrease the overall size of the home, and by using different techniques and materials to further enhance the home’s energy efficiency.
These techniques and materials include the use of strategically placed windows and doors to generate cooling cross breezes, awnings to shade windows during summer months, and low-e and argon filled windows to reduce air leakage and energy consumption. The home’s air leakage rate @ 50 Pa is 1.32 ACH.
